Rummana Chowdhury's poems speak about the joys and sorrows of the universal human condition all over the world. She transcends the barriers of race, gender, colour, country, language, religion and other dividing factors of today's world and speaks about a new universe where people will live in peace and harmony.

She often has questions of belonging, does she belong in her motherland, Bangladesh or in he adopted country Canada where she has been living for the last thirty three years? Why does she fell such Swostalgia for Kolkara where she had spent the first 8 years of her childhood. Does she prefer the monsoon rain of her birthplace or the snowflakes of her adopted country? Her poetry is touching and reflects these dilemmas amongst other issues of universal humanism and the day to day joys and sorrows of life and living, the eternal conflict between the East and the West.
